STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, and the start-up Vittascience, a specialist in educational tools combining science and digital technology in schools, today unveiled two new educational kits based on science and digital technology. Following the success of the “Connected Plant” and “Martian Robot” kits developed in 2021, the “Starter Kit” and the “STM32 IoT Sensor Kit” complete the progressive learning of science for students.

Aimed at students and teachers in junior and secondary education, the educational project, which aims to raise interest in scientific and digital disciplines among young people, is based on the development of educational kits built with STMicroelectronics’ electronic components and supported by the Vittascience digital platform. By proposing activities for the whole class or the educational community and by emphasizing active teaching methods, these two new kits complete the teaching tools available to teachers for progressive learning, from discovery to the use of the latest data storage and processing technologies.

  • Starter Kit: This is a kit specially designed for those new to electronics and programming. Based on an STM32 board, it will allow students to get familiar with the concepts of electronics and programming of microcontrollers. They will be able to take their first steps as programmers thanks to the Vittascience programming interface and to realize their first project using a microcontroller and various associated sensors. This educational tool will allow students to develop a concrete innovation activity in class.
  • STM32 IoT Sensor Kit: This kit allows the development of a multi-activity measurement station with ST sensors. It is provided with a connection, thanks to LoRa® technology, allowing the storage of the measurements on a dedicated space to make the analysis afterwards. It will thus offer to the classes the possibility of storing their measurements made in real time on a dedicated server and to remotely follow the evolution of their data.

Each kit is equipped with a set of written teaching resources, simplifying the technical and pedagogical implementation of the courses for teachers. These kits are programmable through the free online interface of Vittascience, in block or Python language but also with the already available C libraries and the ST tools on its website. To allow the use of these kits internationally, the interface and the associated pedagogical documents are available for the 4 kits, in French, English and Italian and for the discovery kit also in Arabic.

STMicroelectronics and Vittascience presented the educational kits at Sido 2022 in Paris and at Forum economique de la francophonie in Djerba, Tunisia.

This educational project has been supported by the IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest) on microelectronics, whose objective is to provide advanced European microelectronic technologies, circuits, and systems for a strong and independent industry to serve a wide range of applications.
